Setting Up Your Vehicle Profile in Navigation

This article covers how to configure all of your vehicle profile settings for navigation.
  1. In Truck Safe Navigation, tap the   button. The Welcome dialog displays.
  2. Tap the Main Menu button. The Go To screen displays.
  3. Tap the  icon. The Route screen displays.
  4. Tap the Vehicle Routing Profiles option. The Vehicle Routing Profiles screen displays.

  1. In the Vehicle Routing Profiles screen, choose your truck type.
  2. After you choose your truck type, you can choose to further configure your vehicle information. To do this, tap the View/Edit button. Additional configuration options for your vehicle display. Please note that depending on the type of vehicle that you choose, the additional options that are available for configuration may vary.

  • Shortest: Choosing this option will evaluate truck acceptable roadways and provide the smallest distance between your destinations.
  • Practical: Choosing this option takes road classes and other concerns into route calculation for an optimal balance between distance, time, and safety. Typically, this is the recommended selection.
  • RV Height Restriction: This setting allows you to configure your RV's height restrictions. In most cases, you can configure your vehicle's restrictions to these options: no restriction, 12 feet 6 inches, and 13 feet. When this is configured, the navigation will avoid areas where it would not be safe for your vehicle to drive.
  • Truck Dimensions: This setting allows you to configure your truck type, max height, max width, trailer/straight length, total weight, and max weight per axle group. When these settings are configured, the navigation will avoid unsafe areas and areas where your vehicle is not allowed.
  • Hazmat Routing: This setting allows you to configure any specific hazmat routing settings that your vehicle may have. When you configure this setting, the maps and navigation will then know where it can route you and where it needs to avoid. For example, you can choose between these hazmat routing options: general, explosives, flammable, inhalants, caustic, and radioactive. Choosing one of these options allows you to be directed on routes that are safe for your vehicle.
  • Display Road Restrictions on Map: This setting allows you to configure if you would like the navigation to display all road restrictions or hide all road restrictions on your maps.
  • Truck Warnings: This setting allows you to configure if you would like to receive truck warnings. If you choose to receive truck warnings, you can also configure how far in advance (250 yards, 500 yards, or 1,000 yards) you would like to receive these notifications.
  • Toll Roads: This setting allows you to configure if you would like the navigation to avoid toll roads. You can choose between these options: always avoid, avoid if possible, and use.
  • Avoid Ferries: This setting allows you to configure if you would like the navigation to avoid ferries when possible.
  • Avoid Propane-Restricted Tunnels: This setting allows you to configure if you would like the navigation to avoid propane-restricted tunnels when routing.
  • International Borders Open: This setting allows you to configure if you would like to be navigated on routes between countries. For example, routing between Buffalo, New York, and Detroit, Michigan, will route through Canada as it is shorter while this option is checked. If it is not selected, you would be routed south through Ohio around Lake Erie.
  • Road Preferences: This setting allows you to configure approximately what speed you usually drive in different speed limit zones. Configuring this value can help the navigation provide a more personalized, accurate drive time for your routes.
  • Show Walking Breadcrumbs: This setting allows you to configure if you would like the navigation to show breadcrumbs when you're walking. This can be helpful to view where you have walked or to have a route to retrace your steps.

When you change these settings, the changes are automatically saved.
